Jacquie Hoornweg is Executive Director of Ontario Tech University’s Brilliant Energy Institute (BEI). The Institute builds upon the clean energy technology research and expertise at Ontario Tech University, as well as pan-Canadian and international partnerships, to meaningfully contribute to Canada’s leadership to support deep decarbonization, sustainability, energy security and equitable prosperity.

Jacquie came to BEI with two decades of energy sector experience, and several years prior writing about energy, environment and Canadian politics. Her industry career includes more than a decade at Ontario Power Generation (OPG), including several years serving on the Executive Leadership Team as Vice President Corporate Relations and Communications.

More recently, she co-founded and served six years as Managing Partner of Querencia Partners Canada Ltd., working with energy sector leadership and clients on policy, strategy, engagement and communications to strengthen industry performance and public trust. In 2021, she received the Howard A. Smith Outstanding Contribution award from the Canadian Nuclear Society.

Jacquie has served on several industry and community boards. Since 2016, she has taught Reputation Management in the McMaster-Syracuse Universities’ Master of Communications Management joint-degree program. She is also an instructor in the Canadian nuclear industry’s long-standing Nuclear Professional Development Seminar, a program for high-potential middle-managers. Jacquie continues to write and advise industry, in her role at BEI, as a fellow of the Canadian Global Affairs Institute, and as a long-standing contributor to Nuclear Engineering International magazine.
