Elinor Sloan is Professor of International Relations in the Department of Political Science at Carleton University, Ottawa, where she specializes in Canadian and United States security and defence policy. A graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada, she holds a PhD from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Boston. Prior to joining academia, she was a strategic analyst in Canada’s National Defence Headquarters, and prior to that a logistics officer in the Canadian Armed Forces regular force.

Professor Sloan is author of seven books on security, defence, and military strategy, including two second editions, as well of numerous articles and op eds. Her research interests include: the defence policies and military capabilities of Canada, the United States, major NATO allies, Australia, Russia, and China; homeland security and defence; NORAD, space ballistic missile defence, and the Arctic; and defence procurement and shipbuilding.

Prof Sloan is working on a book manuscript on Canada’s international security policy and is pursuing SSHRC funded research on the national shipbuilding strategies of Canada, Australia and Britain.
