As time runs down, options to save Trans Mountain remain open

Kinder Morgan has set a May 31 deadline to remove the political uncertainty around the embattled expansion of its pipeline to the west coast, or the company may walk away.

The day before that deadline, federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau will be in Calgary making a speech to the Chamber of Commerce — at his request.

Morneau and the Liberal government have offered to indemnify Kinder Morgan for losses caused by delays as the British Columbia government and some municipalities and First Nations in that province attempt to block the project.
