Hon. Bob Rae is appointed Canada’s Ambassador to the United Nations
CALGARY – July 6, 2020 – The Canadian Global Affairs Institute (CGAI) is pleased to congratulate the Honourable Bob Rae on his appointment as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations in New York.
In recent years Mr. Rae has served as Canada’s special envoy on humanitarian and refugee issues, leading diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing Rohingya crisis in Myanmar, and as a senior partner at Olthuis Kleer Townshend LLP, where he worked with First Nations across Canada as legal counsel, advisor, and negotiator. He served as Ontario's 21st Premier from 1990 to 1995 and Interim Federal Leader of the Liberal Party in 2011- 2013.
For the past four years Mr. Rae has also served as a CGAI Advisory Council member, providing guidance regarding the most pressing challenges with which Canada and the international community grapple. The CGAI thanks Mr. Rae for his service to the institute and wishes him all the best in his continued service to Canada at the United Nations.
