The Canadian Global Affairs Institute's next Speaker Dinner features Dr. Kim Richard Nossal who will discuss the threats and challenges which Canada must prepare for in the eventuality the Make America Great Again movement in the United States continues to grow and regains power. Under the twin stresses of a reinvigorated protectionist America First policy and reduction of active American global leadership, the West may fracture, leaving Canadians alone for the first time without a great power guarantor, and an increasingly insular and dysfunctional United States. How must Canada prepare for a more turbulent future with its most important international relationship?

Kim Richard Nossal is an emeritus professor of political studies in the Centre for International and Defence Policy at Queen's University. He received his PhD from the University of Toronto in 1977 and taught political science at  McMaster University for 25 years before coming to Queen's in 2001 to head the Department of Political Studies. He also served as executive director of the School of Policy Studies from 2013 to 2015 before retiring in 2020. He is a former president of the Canadian Political Science Association and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. His latest book, Canada Alone: Navigating the Post-American World, was published by Dundurn Press in 2023.
